Ways to get involved
Many of the following activities have been adjusted due to ongoing Covid precautions. If you are interested in learning more about any of the activities below, please contact the church office.
A sure way to feel connected and make friends is to do something you love that supports the ministries of the church. Here are just a few ways to be part of the magic at Old South: Help in Sunday School: Once a month or once a quarter, assist our excellent Sunday School teachers. Lesson plans are already prepared and easily adaptable. Email Jodie to get involved. Contribute to social hour: Cook, serve, or help clean up our fantastic coffee hour. Email Phyllis in the church office get involved. Visit an elder: Spend time with an elderly member who would love company and support. Make some music: All God's creatures get a place in the choir! Whether you are a professional musician or are a fumbling amateur, our choir has a place for you. Prefer to play an instrument or sing with a smaller group? Contact Phyllis for more opportunities Serve as liturgist: Assist our pastor with offering prayers and reading scripture during the worship service. Email Phyllis to get involved. Be a greeter or an usher: Be the face of God to everyone walking into the building. Email the chair of our deacons, Shelley Griffith, to get involved. Make food: Put your cooking skills to work for someone who has recently had a baby, is recovering from an injury, or is newly grieving. Email Phyllis to get involved. Knit a prayer shawl: Knit your love and prayers into a shawl or lap blanket for someone who needs to feel the tangible warmth of God's love. Please contact Myrna Vallette to get involved. Volunteer for a fundraising event: Our amazing fundraising team hosts events all year long to help fund the missions and ministries of our church. Volunteers are needed for everything from pie-baking to event set-up to spreading publicity. Email Debbie Davis Robinson for more details. Keep us connected: Do you love to write? Are you an editor at heart? Do you have good computer or social media skills? We are always looking for folks who can assist us with sharing information within and outside of the church. Email Phyllis to get involved. Committees and teams: We have a number of more formal leadership opportunities, many of which are open to newcomers. All of our meetings are public, and we encourage anyone to come to witness and be part of the decision-making and visioning of our community. Our committees and teams include:
